Age Class
From Orienteering Wiki
Orienteering is one of the few sports to allow competitors of any age to compete. Age Classes divide the population into 2 year bands from 10 to 20, one band covering 21 to 34, and five year bands from 35 to 79. The bands are labelled by the end closest to 21. Hence the classes are 10,12,14,16,18,20,21,35,40,45,50,55,60,65,70,75.
Your age class is decided by your age on 31st December of the current year.
Age Class courses are split Male/Female prefix M or W (For example W35). In non-English speaking countries usually H and D (herren/dammen)
Classes are as follows:

12 (11-12 year olds)
14 (13-14 year olds)
16 (15-16 year olds)
18 (17-18 year olds)
20 (19-20 year olds)

65 (65-69 year olds)
70 (70-74 year olds)
75 (75-79 year olds)

Anyone can run a higher age class if they wish. The highest possible class is 21 (marked +++). Female runners are also eligible to run a Male class.
For example: A 17 year old can run 20; A 56 year old can run 40; However, a 39 year old cannot run 18 as that is a lower class
